The town is over 90% Indigenous Tz'utujiles who continue to practice their tradional culture and arts.
San Juan is 174 KM from Guatemala City along the InterAmerican Highway. To get here turn off the InterAmerican Highway at KM 148. From Panajachel or San Pedro take a lancha (boat).
